What does Psychrophile ( Psychrophilic ) mean in biology ?
The term Psychrotrophic or psychrophilic microorganism is used for those who love and thrive in cold.
While molds and yeasts only thrive in the temperature ranges specific to psychrotrophic and mesophyll bacteria, bacteria can belong to all 3 groups. In foods stored at low temperatures, the vast majority of bacteria are psychrotrophs.
Pseudomonas, Enterococcus, Alcaligenes, Micrococcus, Candida, Aspergillus are well-known examples of psychrophilic microorganisms.
