What does Cyberchondria mean in medical terms ?
While the Internet is a valuable source of information, it is equally harmful when misused.
Cyberchondria is a disease in which people who are addicted and obsessed with the internet about the diseases get caught. To put it in full definition, Cyberchondria is a disorder defined by individuals who have concerns about their health, doing repetitive and long-term research on the internet to obtain information on this subject. People, who can be defined as “sick patients” among the public, have extreme curiosity, fear and anxiety about their health. With the impulse of this anxiety and worry, they try to obtain information from any source they can reach. Doctor visits do not satisfy these people. They read the same information for hours, worrying that they might have a “bad disease”.
