What is a desiccator used for ?
Desiccator is a laboratory instrument used to protect the dryness value of substances that are easily affected by the external environment. The purpose here is not to dry a particular material or tool, but to maintain its dryness.
Desiccators contain chemical substances called dryers. These are chemicals that absorb moisture from the material. For example;
Calcium Chloride Anhydrous
Magnesium perchlorate trihydrate
Anhydrous calcium sulfate
Concentrated Sulfuric acid
In order for the desiccators to function fully, the lid should be closed during use, closed after the material is taken at the end of use, and wet substances should not be placed in the desiccator.
