For example, in a scientific study conducted in 2008, the participant group consisting of 60 overweight men and overweight women were taken on a standard diet for 12 weeks and one group was given green tea and the other group was given a placebo (false drug). Throughout the study, participants who drank green tea decreased by an average of 3.3 kilograms more than those in the control group.
Another controlled study revealed that participants who consumed green tea extract for 12 weeks lost weight, decreased body fat, and weakened the belly area.
This is because green tea extract is rich in catechins, which are natural antioxidants. Catechins help us burn more fat with the metabolism-accelerating effect.
