What does Entomology mean ?
Entomology or insect science is the branch of science that studies insects.
Specialists of this branch of science are called entomologists or insect scientists.
Insecta, the most populated class of the animal kingdom, covers at least as many unidentified insect species as well as over 700,000 known species. Insects that show such a rich species diversity naturally have a much greater importance in human life than other animals.
Entomology, like other areas of biology, is divided into many sub branches (systematic entomology, ecology, ethology, physiology, etc.). In most of these sub-branches, both applied and research-only studies are carried out. While applied entomology studies insects in terms of their harm and benefits, the purpose of theoretical research collects basic information about all insects. Applied entomology is closely related to fields such as field and horticulture and forestry.
