What is Glastnost ?
Mikhail Seigeyevich Gorbachev was the leader of the Soviet Union between 1985 and 1991.
As a Soviet leader, Gorbachev was very famous for making many innovations in his country. In 1985, Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, introduced two principles to change the economy.
Glastnost: Openness, Transparency (January 1987)
Perestroika: Restructuring (November 1987)
The concepts of “openness” and “restructuring”, which mean Glastnost or Perestroika, did not prevent the collapse of the Soviets, on the contrary, the logic of freedom in the name of democratization enabled the opposition groups within the country to become stronger and the state started to be shaken with internal confusion in a short time.
